Or at least, another one is in the process of biting the dust.

One of the 1 TB Seagate drives in my main home computer is throwing an error that the RAID mirror sees on start up of the machine. This most likely means that it's time to buy a new drive to replace the failing one. I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to do this, but it certainly needs to be soon.

In the meantime, I'm backing up the documents directory to the NAS.

Because a RAID mirror is good. And when a drive is starting to fail, a recent backup is even better.

(Ok, a recent backup is always better, but...)

It was a nice, if cool, evening here (we're back from summer to the early part of spring, it seems), so we piled in the van and drove down to Fry's, where I picked up a replacement hard drive to swap for the failed one in my RAID array. Then we had dinner at the nearby Famous Dave's.

*burp*

The new drive is now installed and busy reestablishing the mirror. Of course, the first thing that I found after rebooting was that I had no network. Fortunately, a trip to the basement to unplug and replug the cable modem and router fixed that problem.

This is good. The last thing I wanted tomorrow was another trip out for a new router...
