Ok, it wasn't as bad as all that.

I was pushing laundry through at a tremendous rate today as we tried to get the house clean. We were changing all of the beds upstairs, so we'd generated a lot of bedding. And two loads of little girl laundry.

So I had the last load of bedding. And it was just a bit large. And just a bit off-balance.

When the spin cycle hit, our top-loading washer happily flung water out the top. Everywhere.

The good news is that most of it headed for the drain in the laundry room.

The bad news was that some of it flowed into the storage room next door -- which is only separated by bare studs from the laundry room, so not a great surprise. A couple of boxes full of plastic bed parts got slightly wet on the bottom, so I just turned them over to dry out.

But there were two big boxes on the bottom of a pile of things that belonged to [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise that had sucked up some water, so I called her down to help move the boxes on top so we could make sure that nothing had gotten soaked. One of the boxes was just full of old fabric. The other, however, contained the stuffed animals and plastic horses from her youth.

Happily, we'd yanked everything out before the water could penetrate the boxes. The empty boxes are being allowed to dry and we'll see how they survive.

But no precious possessions were damaged by the minor flood.

And that was a happy thing.
