Home From Windycon
Nov. 13th, 2022 10:26 pmWe are home from Windycon and I am monstrously tired.
The news from the end of the con is that we will be changing hotels next year. We've been in the Westin Lombard for a long time, but it was time to move, if for no other reason than that the latest renovations to the sleeping rooms have caused the hotel to refuse to remove beds from the rooms, which is a major, major problem when you're trying to throw a party. And the truly fine parties that various groups throw at the con are something that we really don't want to lose. So we move.
Next year, Windycon will be in the Doubletree Oak Brook, just up the road from where we are now. It looks like this will be a good place for us, but it means that we are going to have to figure out the space allocation for *everything* again. And we will figure it out. It's just frustrating, when I finally figured out something good to do with the dead section of hallway past the dealers' room by moving the Build-a-Blinkie folks out there. Ah, well.
We had fun with the SpaceTime Theater show, despite losing Jerry at the last minute due to his being exposed to COVID the previous day. And we got some nice compliments on it.
K joined the auctioneering corps this weekend and acquitted herself well. The kid may be the youngest auctioneer that we've had, but definitely isn't lacking in stage presence. (In other auction news, I think this is the first time that we've done a book improv while auctioning off a piece, as Lisa put the idea into my head and then cooperated as I dropped the bit on her and proceeded responding to dialog she read from the book while taking bids.)
All of our guests were wonderful, including Lauren Oxford (who had a fine concert with her all-star band, which I got to see a bit of in between the auction and running around), and everyone who made Opening Ceremonies fun.
I have to say a special thanks to Spinneret, our Cosplay Guest of Honor, who did so much to help us out with the cosplay judging and our cosplay runway, neither of which would have been nearly as good without her active help and participation.
And in the non-guest-of-honor category, there's just so much that would be impossible to do (or that *I* would have to be doing personally) if it weren't for all the hard work that Dave Ifversen and his cohort do to make the tech function at the con. Thanks, Dave!
There are many other things that I could say, but it's late and I'm tired. :)
The theme for next year is "Adventure Is Out There".
And it *will* be a new adventure.
I hope we see you there!
