Surrounded

I took a bit of time this evening (more than a *bit* of time, actually) and finished hooking up the new surround sound receiver. Things mostly seem to be working correctly, although the subwoofer is unresponsive, so I need to see what's wrong with it; and the right front speaker is misbehaving, which may be due to bad wiring on my part. I'm sure I have more speaker wire somewhere and if I don't, I will just get some more.
I also need one more HDMI cable. I would have sworn that I had one that I wasn't using, but if I do, I can't find it.
The happy news is that the basic setup is working. The TV downstairs is sufficiently old that it doesn't seem to support ARC, but the receiver lets me wire around that problem. Also, the receiver does a simple pass-through of HDMI signals when turned off, which means that no one is going to kill me because watching TV has become far more complicated than it needs to be.
We'll call this a tentative success and return to sorting out the problems later. :)
