Before I left for GAFilk, I went over to a nearby used office furniture store where the website said that they had refurbished Herman Miller Aeron Type C chairs in stock. These are very nice, ergonomic office chairs with Type C being the "big guy" version, for which I qualify easily.
As it turned out, they had them in stock, but they hadn't finished the refurbishment yet. And it was the last day of the current sale on Aeron chairs (which I had been unaware of, because the website hadn't mentioned it). But they could get one in for me by Thursday.
Which was when I was leaving for GAFilk. I explained that I was going out of town and would be back on Tuesday and the sales guy said I could come test drive one then and that he would hold the sales price for me, given that I had come in during the sale to buy an in-stock chair that wasn't exactly in stock.
They were a bit backed up on orders on Tuesday, but the chair was ready today. When Gretchen and I went out to lunch, we stopped in, I sat in the chair, got the instructions, and the chair came home with me at the sale price. When Strength got home from school, she helped me maneuver the new chair up to my office.
And I am sitting in it now.
It is quite comfortable and my feet are sitting flat on the floor. I'm not exactly used to typing at this angle, but it may actually be an improvement once I get used to it.
And, if not, I can always make some adjustments to the keyboard position. :)
