The check engine light came on in our minivan a few weeks ago, but cleared itself shortly thereafter, so we decided to watch it for a while. When it came on again yesterday, we decided it needed to take a trip to the dealership.

The van needs a new catalytic converter. Happily, this is covered under our extended warranty. With any luck, we should get it back tomorrow.

At least the thing was merely worn out, and not stolen for the scrap platinum!

Even if you didn't have the extended warranty, emissions equipment (the converter qualifies) is covered for 5 years. (IIRC, federal law requires this.)

Is this your Town and Country? Our catalytic converter went out too...

Yeah, I saw that in the thread in Allison's journal. I'm still fairly happy with the Town and Country overall, and given the way we've used the stow and go seating and the convenience with band and con travel, I'm inclined to get another one when this one finally goes to the junkyard in the sky.

It's like it knows when the warranty runs out. Kind of scary...

Now that would be interesting dashborad software to write. Report things A-Okay until the warrenty expires, then turn on the warning lights on the slightest trouble.
