Among the things one finds when cleaning out the sent mail are lyrical fragments. Here's one that [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise started and I finished up:

Never build a ship of stone
It surely won't be buoyant.
If sinking, leaves you all alone,
You'll find it's an annoyant.
You wouldn't want to find your race
Had perished in a watery place.
No, never build a ship of stone.

(Yes, you've likely guessed the tune by now...)

Don't go down to Argo port
When you need recreation.
They don't appreciate the sort
That leads to devastation.
So don't bring down exotic plants,
And keep the remnants of your pants,
And don't go down to Argo port.

If you get or write enough to make a song, you're welcome to use my verse.

Why am I suddenly thinking about the concrete canoe contest that ASCE holds for its student chapters every year? :-)

Back in the day, there was a brief fad for "ferrocement" yachts. There are reasons why this fad was brief, although, sure, they did float, at least for a while.

Ships of stone work great when your ocean is full of molten lava. Ask Gretchen.

And mind your manners
Lest you find you must atone
And never build a ship of stone!

I once wrote a letter to ... oh, was it addressed to Legolas? - about the unwiseness about allowing the dwarf to help build a ship bound for the West, and speculating what the dwarf would think were necessary provisions for the journey.

Never kill one of the Graemes
His brother will defeat you.
If living is one of your aims
That's an action you will rue.
You'll die in pain and deep disgrace
Your genes forever lost in space.
No, never kill one of the Graemes.
