The new bed having passed muster -- my managing to sleep for seven consecutive hours one night without waking up being a clue -- it is now time to look into getting rid of our old bed.

So here's the skinny (and skinny is what we recommend for this bed, as we think that many of the problems that we have had with this badly-designed thing are due to our being fat): the bed is a Sleep Number i7 King, about five years old, on a standard base. When I try to sleep in it, it leaks air. Usually. But not always. Why it behaves in different ways at different times is a mystery, but if the mattress is off-centered so that it hangs off my side of the bed, the leakage is much less noticeable.

It comes with the wireless remote.

And it is free to anyone who wants to haul it away. The plywood that we used to cover the box spring parts so that the Responsive Air feature didn't destroy the box spring when the mattress deflated while you were sitting on the edge of the bed to put on your shoes is included -- and given the price of plywood nowadays, that's a bargain!

If you have ever wanted to try out a Sleep Number bed with absolutely no risk whatsoever (their actual free trial policy is not as free as you might hope, especially if you order a motorized bed frame) or if you already own one of these and are looking for free spare parts, this is the bed for you!

Operators are standing by.
